In Telugu, the regional language of Andhra Pradesh, the word Nallamala means “black hills.” The forest has long been a source of wonder and mystery because to its dark and dense nature, which is reflected in the name.

Numerous historical and legendary events have taken place in the Nallamala Forest, giving it a rich and diverse history and culture. From the third century BCE until the sixteenth century CE, the forest was a part of the ancient kingdoms of Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, and Vijayanagaras. The Delhi Sultanate, the Bahmani Sultanate, and the Mughal Empire all attempted to conquer and pillage the forest and its resources.
